V V Chapeaux's Cheltenham Festival Style Guide
Because if you’re going to brave the cold at the Cheltenham festival, you may as well do it in true V V style.
Cheltenham Festival is four days of impeccable tailoring, sensible footwear (in theory), and V V fabulous headpieces that make you standout from the crowd. The weather may be brisk, occasionally hostile, but that is hardly an excuse not to dress for the occassion.
A Cheltenham hat must balance praticality with elegance - substantial enough to stand up to a March breeze, refined enough to sit effortlessly beside your warm winter wool coat. At V V Chapeaux, we design millinery with precisely this in mind. Sculptural silhouettes, vintage detailing - pieces that hold their own from the parade ring to the final race, without ever appearing to try too hard.
Our race day collection is designed specifically for events such as Cheltenham, combining structured silhouettes, rich fabrics and vintage blooms handpicked from Annabel’s archive. Each piece is crafted to sit beautifully with coats, capes and tailored two-pieces, ensuring you are ready - especially for the return of Ladies’ Day at Cheltenham this year.
While delicate fascinators have their place, Cheltenham calls for something with a little more assurance. This is not a garden party - it’s four days outdoors, in March.
At V V Chapeaux for the Cheltenham Festival we tend to lean our clients towards more refined statement pieces: sculptural shapes, considered detailing and headpieces that feel purposeful rather than purely decorative.
Cheltenham is a winter meeting, so your hat has to work with a proper coat - wool, velvet, cashmere, the lot. A piece that’s too small simply disappears once the layers go on.
Our perchers are designed to hold their own. They sit neatly, add just enough height and make the whole look feel considered - without looking as though you’ve tried terribly hard.
Cheltenham may fall in early spring, but the mood remains reassuringly wintry. Forest green, Pitch Blue, Dark Amaryllis and Dark Bark sit beautifully against classic race day tailoring, while jewel tones such as Emerald and Plum add depth without shouting.
Neutrals have their place too. Camel, ivory and soft grey feel particularly sophisticated when paired with texture - understated, but never dull.
